Of the three drivers in Cobra’s DarkSpeed family, the X is my favorite. New for 2024, this driver is designed to deliver a deadly combination of explosive distance, high launch, and stability.
This driver has a ton of cool stuff going for it, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it in today’s review.
So, buckle up, we’re going to jump right in.
Space-grade material construction affords golfers faster ball speeds than any driver Cobra has ever made.
Streamlined aerodynamic shaping reduces drag and increases clubhead speed.
Front and back weights allow for optimal spin-tuning control.
Like the rest of the DarkSpeed drivers, the X is loaded with all-new tech and design features that set it apart from drivers Cobra has made in previous years.
First, the materials used in its construction are space-grade, and they were chosen by a team of aerospace engineers. Suffice it to say they underwent rigorous testing and the end result was some of the lightest weight, fastest material we’ve ever seen in a driver.
The aerodynamic design of the clubhead is also worth noting. In testing I was able to substantially increase my swing speed thanks to minimal drag with the clubhead through the hitting area.
Two adjustable weights have been strategically positioned at the front and back of the clubhead to help golfers optimize their spin profile for ideal launch conditions.
The PWR-BRIDGE in the DarkSpeed X has been moved lower and farther forward in the clubhead. This not only adds stability, it also maximizes the transfer between the clubhead and the ball for meteoric ball speeds.
The PWRSHELL L-cup is also 10% larger which adds to the ball speed equation while also increasing forgiving across the clubface.
Cobra has come a long way in terms of driver tech and design. It really shows in the DarkSpeed X.
The Cobra DarkSpeed X driver delivers maximum speed, distance, and forgiveness. If you’re a mid to high-handicapper who wants more consistent all-around performance from the tee, the Cobra DarkSpeedX is for you. However, if you’re an advanced player that swings at a high rate of speed, and spins the ball a lot, you might be better off with the DarkSpeed LS.
PROS
CONS
I had nothing but good things to say about all the drivers in the Cobra DarkSpeed line. But the X was my favorite.
I was especially impressed with the aerodynamics of the clubhead which allowed me to gain clubhead speed and therefore distance.
I also noticed how explosive the clubface was. Not only did I increase carry distance, but total distance as well.
Overall, the Cobra DarkSpeed X driver more than exceeded my expectations.
What type of golfer is the DarkSpeed X designed for?
The Cobra DarkSpeed X driver is designed for a wide range of golfers, from tour players to amateurs. It offers an ideal combination of speed and forgiveness, making it suitable for above-average speed players looking to maximize distance while maintaining accuracy.
What are the key technologies in the DarkSpeed X driver?
The DarkSpeed X features several key technologies:
How adjustable is the DarkSpeed X driver?
The DarkSpeed X offers significant adjustability options:
How does the DarkSpeed X compare to other models in the DarkSpeed line?
The DarkSpeed X sits between the LS (low spin) and MAX (most forgiving) models in terms of performance characteristics:
What is the price of the Cobra DarkSpeed X driver?
The Cobra DarkSpeed X driver is priced at $549 in the United States. Prices may vary in other countries and currencies. For example, it's listed at £429 in the UK, which is notably less expensive than some major competitors.
Cobra is yet again seemingly flying under the radar in 2024 compared to some of the other major manufacturers. But I don’t expect that to remain the case for very long.
That’s due in large part to the performance and popularity of the DarkSpeed X driver.
If you’re looking for a high-tech driver that’s going to help you hit longer drives and find more fairways, there’s no going wrong with the Cobra DarkSpeed X.
