When it comes to high-end golf equipment, you probably think of names like Titleist, Taylormade and Callaway. Sure, these are the big players in the golf manufacturing space who pay the world’s best players millions of dollars to play their equipment, and whose marketing budgets rival those of political campaigns.
With that said, there exists a number of lesser-known companies whose equipment is just as good, if not better than the so-called “big boys.” One such company is Honma. And specifically, their TR21 Big-LB fairway wood.
Designed for the world’s best players and the most discerning amateurs, this fairway wood is nothing short of brilliant. That’s reflected in expert craftsmanship and the incorporation of the finest materials and technology available.
VIZARD graphite shafts are manufactured to work in concert with this specific clubhead to deliver maximum performance.
Low loft and low center of gravity combine to deliver high launch and low spin for exceptional distance.
Non-rotating hosel allows for easy adjustability and consistent shaft spine alignment.
We’ve noted the exceptional design characteristics that set the Honma TR-21 Big-LB apart from other fairway woods. The technology and materials only further enhance this club’s performance capabilities.
Multi-material construction combines a thin titanium body, dense tungsten weight, and heavy steel sole plate to deliver ultimate stability through the hitting area.
Each of these materials is layered in a way that has density increasing the farther back and down you move through the head. This is the perfect design for both distance and stability.
VIZRARD shafts are built exclusively in Sakata, Japan. They’re revered as some of the finest in the game. Available in both 60 and 70 grams with a length of 43”, these shafts are all spined at 6:00.
The TR21 Big-LB blends classic design with modern technology in what is one of the longest three-woods in the game.
Better players seem to prefer a classic look. There’s just something about a simple, traditional shape that’s hard to beat. That’s exactly what you’ll find in the TR21 Big-LB. Combined with cutting edge materials and technology, this club delivers in every way possible.
PROS
CONS
I’ve known about the Honma brand for a while, but not much beyond its name and that Justin Rose and Ernie Els play the equipment.
It wasn’t until I got the TR-21 Big-LB in my hands that I realized what the hype was all about. This is one of the cleanest looking and best performing three-woods I’ve ever hit.
The stability of the shaft and head through impact is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. And the ball comes off the face hot, high, and with minimal spin. I hit this club so much further than my regular three-wood, it took some major adjusting to get used to.
This club won’t be leaving my bag anytime soon.
What are the key features of the Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood?
The Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood features a thin one-piece titanium body and face brazed to a heavy steel soleplate. It includes a variable thickness face to maximize ball speed, a sole slot to increase flex on lower face strikes, and a non-rotating loft and lie adjustability adapter to reduce shaft variation and adjust lie and loft by +/- 1°.
What is the adjustability range of the Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood?
The Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood offers 1 degree of loft adjustability. This allows golfers to fine-tune the club to their preferred settings for optimal performance.
What makes the Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood unique compared to other fairway woods?
The Honma TR21 Big-LB stands out due to its combination of modern technology and classic design. It uses a brazing process to attach the titanium body and face to the steel soleplate, which helps achieve a low and deep center of gravity. This design aims to launch the ball high and far, making it one of the longest three-woods available.
What are the available shaft options for the Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood?
The Honma TR21 Big-LB comes with the in-house designed and manufactured Honma VIZARD shaft. It is available in 50, 60, and 70g options with flexes including regular, stiff-regular, stiff, and extra stiff.
What is the price and availability of the Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood?
The Honma TR21 Big-LB Fairway Wood is priced at $329.00. It became available at retail starting November 1, and it is available in right-hand only.
It comes as little surprise that many of the world’s best players have put the Honma TR21 Big-LB in their bag. The club simply outperforms the competition in every sense of the word.
Honma is definitely a company to keep an eye on. I have no doubt the equipment they continue to turn out in the future will be nothing but the best, just like the TR20 Big-LB.
If you’re looking a fairway wood that can take your game to the next level, the Honma TR20 Big-LB can’t be beat.
