Today, golf is all about distance. Sure, it’s important to be in the fairway, but the closer to the hole you can get the ball off the tee, the better. Just ask Bryson DeChambeau.

As such, the shaft you have in your driver is the most important piece of the distance equation. That’s especially true if you’re already a big hitter. Matching the correct shaft and head can make all the difference in the world.

And when it comes to driver shafts for golfers with fast swing speeds, True Temper’s line of Project X shafts leads the way.

The new HZRDUS Green Smoke is the latest addition and has been highly touted.

Let’s have a closer look.

Key Features

Increased stiffness allows for maximum stability throughout the swing.

Low launch and low spin dynamics are the perfect combination for high ball hitters.

HexTow carbon fiber construction is especially strong and stable.

Design and Technology

When it comes to modern day driver shafts, the very best ones are packed full of tech. The Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX is no exception.

Known as the “Hulk,” this shaft is considered the stiffest, burliest, manliest shaft on the market. It’s not for the faint of heart.

This shaft has a mid kick point regardless of how hard you swing it. And that’s by design. It’s going to perform consistently shot after shot.

The shaft is made from HexTow carbon fiber. This is aerospace-grade material that’s especially strong. Its use adds to the stability and predictability of the Smoke Green RDX.

The shaft in your driver is the most important part of the distance equation. If you don’t have the right one, you’re likely costing yourself both distance and accuracy. In the case of the True Temper Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX, there’s no guessing who the shaft is for.

It’s for players with especially fast swing speeds that hit the ball high. If you fall into that category and are looking for more consistent performance out of your diver, the Smoke Green RDX is definitely worth a shot.

PROS

  • Low spin dynamic increases distance.
  • Low trajectory factor helps with accuracy.
  • HexTow carbon fiber construction increases stability and consistency.

CONS

  • Price point is higher than other driver shafts.
  • Shaft is probably too stiff for the average golfer with a slow to moderate swing speed.
  • Low trajectory may not be suited for everyone.

Our Experience

I swing the club at a reasonably high rate of speed. As such, the shaft in my driver is extra stiff. Anything less and my spin rate goes up and my shot dispersion becomes wider.

With that being said, I’m here to tell you this is one of the stiffest shafts I’ve ever swung. I really liked the low spin, low trajectory ball flight.

My shot dispersion was a lot tighter too. As a right-handed golfer, I found that almost none of my misses were left of my target. For me, eliminating the left side of the course is something that would help me score a lot better.

Overall, this shaft is solid, but takes some getting used to. I’d recommend it if your swing speed is fast and you’re looking for more consistency off the tee.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key features of the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft?

The Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft is known for its low launch and low spin characteristics. It features HexTow carbon fibers for enhanced strength and consistency, a counterbalanced design to allow for longer playing lengths or added mass to the clubhead, and a smooth feel compared to previous iterations. This shaft is designed to be one of the most stable and solid options available, making it suitable for players with aggressive swings.

Who should consider using the HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft?

The HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft is ideal for golfers who have a faster tempo and more aggressive swing transitions. It is particularly suited for players seeking a low trajectory and low spin, making it beneficial for those who play in windy conditions. Golfers with higher clubhead speeds will find this shaft advantageous due to its stability and ability to handle powerful swings.

How does the HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft differ from previous HZRDUS models?

Compared to previous HZRDUS models, the Smoke Green RDX offers a smoother feel while maintaining the low launch and low spin performance. It incorporates HexTow carbon fibers for improved strength and consistency and features a counterbalanced design. Visually, it transitions from a rich green color in the upper half to solid black in the lower half, distinguishing it from earlier versions.

What are the available flex and weight options for the HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft?

The HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft is available in two weight classes: 60 grams and 70 grams. It comes in three flex options: 6.0 (stiff), 6.5 (X-flex), and TX (Tour-X). These options allow golfers to choose a shaft that best matches their swing speed and desired performance characteristics.

What type of performance can golfers expect from the HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft?

Golfers can expect the HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX shaft to deliver a low launch and low spin ball flight, making it ideal for controlling trajectory and maximizing distance in windy conditions. The shaft provides a stable and solid feel, with a slight kick in the middle, ensuring consistent performance regardless of swing intensity. Its accuracy is notable, giving golfers confidence in their shot outcomes.
