For years, True Temper has been an industry leader when it comes to golf shafts. That’s proven especially true of the Project X family of shafts. They’re some of the most trusted in the game.

The latest addition to the Project X family is the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft.

It’s the highest launching and spinning shaft of any in the HZRDUS family.

As such, it’s proven immensely popular with amateurs of all abilities that want to hit the ball higher and farther off the tee.

Let’s see what makes this shaft so great.

Key Features

Exaggerated mid kick point increases swing and ball speed.

Active tip section increases trajectory.

Stiff butt section provides plenty of stability.

Design and Technology

Like all the other Project X shafts, the Smoke Red RDX is made of HexTow carbon fiber. Through extensive research and testing, the R&D folks at True Temper found that this material delivered optimal feel and performance.

From a structural standpoint, this shaft gives you the best of both worlds. Stiff butt and midsections give golfers the stability they need through the impact zone to make solid contact with a square face. At the same time, the hyperactive tip section helps golfers get the ball in the air for maximized carry distance.

In total, the Smoke Red RDX is perfectly balanced throughout in terms of weight, rigidity, and stability in all the strategic places.

Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX Shaft

True Temper has been one of the most trusted names in golf club shafts for as long as anyone can remember. The RDX family of shafts are no exception. For players with below average swing speeds that are looking to hit their tee shots, higher, farther, and more consistently, there’s no more reliable choice than the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’ve been missing out.

PROS

  • Cutting-edge carbon fiber material increases both performance and responsiveness.
  • Different flex options suit golfers with different swing speeds.
  • Active tip section helps golfers get the ball in the air more than other shafts.

CONS

  • Not suitable for players with above average swing speeds.
  • Shaft is more expensive than other, comparable shafts.
  • May not be a stock shaft in most drivers and therefore require an upgrade fee.

Our Experience

The Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft is too light and whippy for me personally. Not that I swing it like a Tour Player (far from it, trust me), but I’m better suited for the stiffer Smoke Black RDX shaft.

However, a number of guys in my weekly group have the Smoke Red RDX shaft in their drivers and they absolutely love it.

Not only does it allow them to hit tee shots higher and farther, it has enough stability for them to keep the ball in play more consistently. Again, the best of both worlds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key characteristics of the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft?

The Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft is known for its active feel, moderate kick, and good stability. It offers a mid launch and spin, making it suitable for players who want a blend of stability and feel. The shaft is available in weights of 50, 60, and 70 grams, with various flex options to accommodate different swing speeds and preferences.

How does the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX compare to other shafts in the HZRDUS family?

The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX is designed to provide the highest launch and spin among the HZRDUS RDX shafts. It features a stiff butt and midsection with an active tip, making it more suitable for players with aggressive swing tempos who need help getting the ball in the air. This contrasts with the HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX, which is the stiffest and lowest launching shaft in the family.

What kind of player would benefit most from using the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft?

The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft is ideal for players who have a faster tempo and need a shaft that can provide a higher launch and more spin. It is particularly beneficial for those who struggle to get the ball in the air and need a shaft that offers a more active feel without compromising stability. Players who prefer a shaft that feels like it adds extra speed to their swing will also find this shaft advantageous.

How does the feel of the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft differ from other shafts?

The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft has a more active feel compared to other HZRDUS shafts. While it has a firm tip and butt, the midsection provides a substantial kick, which can give the sensation of added speed during the swing. This is a departure from the traditionally "boardy" feel of more stable shafts in the HZRDUS line, thanks to the use of advanced materials like HexTow carbon fiber.

What are the available flex and weight options for the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft?

The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shaft is available in three weight classes: 50 grams, 60 grams, and 70 grams. The flex options for the 50-gram version include 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0, which correspond to A-Flex, Regular, and Stiff. For the 60-gram and 70-gram versions, the flex options are 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, and TX, catering to a wide range of player preferences and swing speeds.

Conclusion

True Temper has been one of the most trusted names in golf club shafts for as long as anyone can remember. The RDX family of shafts are no exception.

For players with below average swing speeds that are looking to hit their tee shots, higher, farther, and more consistently, there’s no more reliable choice than the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’ve been missing out.
