When I was at the PGA Merchandise Show earlier this year, I had the chance to meet the guys from Shot Scope. I was a little familiar with the company, but it wasn’t until I could meet the guys that made it all work that I gained a lot of respect for the company and its golf distance measuring devices.

Since then, I’ve had the chance to try out a number of their products, and I’ve been impressed by every single one.

One that I’m particularly excited about is the Shot Scope X5 GPS watch. Not only is this watch one of the most fashionable around, it’s packed full of all sorts of cool tech and features that are all designed to help you play better golf and have more fun.

Let’s dive in for a closer look.

Key Features

Club tags that attach to the end of your grips track all your shot information.

More than 100 metrics are tracked so you can analyze your performance over time.

Green View feature allows you to manipulate the pin placement for precise approach shot yardages.

Design and Technology

Ok, now the fun begins. Buckle up, because we have a lot to talk about with the tech and design features of the Shot Scope X5 .

The first things you’ll notice about the X5 are its sharp, stylish looks. The display measures 1.2” in diameter and is full color. The display is encased by a ceramic bezel and multifunction crown. You can even choose from one of five different color watch band designs.

The watch comes preloaded with more than 36,000 courses so you’ll never have to worry about downloading a new course before you go play.

On the home screen, you’ll see dynamic yardages to the front, middle, and back of every green. Also featured are distances to and over important obstacles like hazards, bunkers, and dog legs.

After you’ve found the fairway with your tee shot, switch over to the Green View screen where you’ll be able to see the entire green layout and use your finger to manually pinpoint the hole location on the touchscreen. When you do, the watch will give you a precise yardage to that point.

A feature the X5 has that not many other GPS watches do is shot tracking tags. By attaching tags to end of the grips on your clubs, the system is able to track more than 100 different stats (including strokes gained) and store them. Once you’ve played enough rounds, you’ll be able to identify strengths and weaknesses and develop a practice plan accordingly.

When you download the Shot Scope app, you have access to interactive features like tournaments and the ability to share highlights and lowlights on social media.

If you’re working with a swing instructor, they can access your information through the Shot Scope Academy as long as they have an account. This can make remote learning a real possibility.

The X5 also lets you keep score. As you progress through your round, your score in relation to par will be displayed on the home screen.

With all the features the X5 offers, you’d think an annual subscription and updates would cost you additional money. That’s not the case, all that stuff is included with your initial purchase.

Let’s say you’re going to play a new course and want to do a little pre round scouting. You can with Shot Scope’s Course Hub feature. This allows you to see how other Shot Scope users have played the course before you tee off. It’s like having your own customized yardage book.

If for some reason you’re unhappy with your purchase of the X5 , you have a full 30 days to return it for a full refund, no questions asked. It also comes with an industry-leading two-year warranty.

As you can see, there’s a lot going on with this watch.

Our Experience

As I mentioned in the opening, I’m really impressed with the team at Shot Scope. They’re passionate about what they do, and they know their stuff.

But I’ll be honest, I was a little intimidated when I first learned about the X5 and its different functions and capabilities. As someone who’s not great with tech, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to figure everything out.

That wasn’t the case at all. Despite being as technologically advanced this watch is, it’s very user friendly and easy to navigate.

It’s obvious there was a lot of thought that went into this watch’s development, and the results speak for themselves.
