The market for direct-to-consumer golf balls has risen dramatically in the last few years. OnCore Golf is looking to make a splash in the golf ball category. For those that have never heard of OnCore, you need to take a look. Their ELIXR and AVANT golf balls have both been awarded by several companies including the Golf Digest Hot List and although there may not be must faith left in that list, OnCore is paying for none of their accolades. OnCore is confident enough in their product to allow us to put ELIXR to the test and see what a sub-$40 golf ball can do.

Key Features

ELIXR is a tour-level golf ball available in 3 color options endorsed by Gary Player.

ELIXR uses a metal-infused ionomer mantle and a urethane cover to comprise its matrix of 3-piece construction for better control of spin in both the long and short game.

ELIXR has been rated at 5 stars by over 500 customer reviews and boasts a 4-star or better rating in 98% of consumer feedback tests.

Design and Technology

The OnCore ELIXR golf ball is a 3-piece construction that uses a polybutadiene rubber core, a metal-infused ionomer mantle layer, and a urethane cover to give players a diverse spin profile and softer feel. Each layer is designed to give players lower spin from the driver and longer clubs for distance while maintaining spin and control around the greens with wedges and short irons.

The OnCore golf ball is one of the softest on the market making it a luxury experience during chips and putts. One of the greatest advantages of OnCore balls is the continuous bulk pricing and the offering of a color selection that makes visualization easier during year-round play.

OnCore ELIXR Golf Ball

We always recommend getting your golf ball properly fit to ensure your personal best performance but the ELIXR has to be on your shortlist of golf balls to try. If you are not explicitly being paid to play golf equipment, then why would you pay more for the same level of performance?

OnCore is bringing tour-level performance direct-to-consumers for better prices and outstanding feel. OnCore is best suited for players that want tour-level consistency, better prices, and a luxurious soft-feel.

PROS

  • Diverse spin profile allows for players to hit every shot required around the golf course from driver to putter.
  • Luxury soft feel is a pleasure to hit without sacrificing needed feedback of strike contact and hit quality.
  • Bulk pricing model allows players to play the ELIXR every shot and improve their overall consistency and performance.

CONS

  • The lime matte green finish balls seem to perform slightly differently than both the white and yellow.
  • The fastest swingers, 115 miles per hour clubhead speeds, may not be best suited to the ELIXR balls.
  • Inability to demo or test the OnCore will limit golfer’s abilities to make the ELIXR part of their fittings.

Our Experience

Golf ball testing begins and ends mostly with feel and control around the greens. Premium golf balls will lend themselves to repeatable performance as you try to sure up shots after missed greens or control distance during your putting. The first impression of the OnCore ELIXR was its unique feel. The ELIXR is one of the softest tour-level golf balls I have ever played. It is an absolute pleasure to putt and chip with. The beauty of the 3-piece construction is that the softness does not completely dull the feedback required to play great golf and I believe that this is truly the hallmark of the ELIXR golf ball.

Golfers that want luxury feel but know they must retain a sense of feedback from their golf ball will love the ELIXR’s performance. I continued to be impressed with how soft the ELIXR golf ball felt while still providing me a perfect sense of where I was striking the ball on the clubface.
