I got an amazing invitation from PXG last month to visit Scottsdale National, a private golf course owned by the company's billionaire founder, Bob Parsons. They were hosting a media day where I'd get to test out their new Black Ops Irons and Sugar Daddy 3 Wedges.

It turned out to be incredible. I got professionally fitted for the irons and even had a chance to chat with Bob Parsons about his new book, "Fire in the Hole!: The Untold Story of My Traumatic Life and Explosive Success." I've got to say, it's become one of my favorite books ever.
But you know what really blew me away? PXG's new putter: the Allan Putter.

This thing is pretty special - it uses physics to help you sink more putts. They named it after Bob's late brother, Allan Parsons, and it's perfect for golfers at any skill level.

Bob shared something his brother used to say: "We're not here for a long time; we're here for a good time." That really captures what this putter's all about. I can't believe how many putts I've made since switching to it - way more than I ever thought I could.

First Impression

The first thing you notice about the PXG Allen putter is that it resembles any mallet putter. In fact, it closely resembles their Blackjack putter, a traditional mallet, and they look incredibly similar in shape when placed side by side. This is notable because most perfectly balanced putters, designed to eliminate face rotation during the putting stroke, tend to have a more futuristic and spaceship-like appearance. However, with its sleek, modern design featuring clean lines and a striking black and silver color scheme, the Allen is definitely a head-turner.

Features and Performance

Now at the heart of Allan Putter's performance is PXG's groundbreaking Zero Torque Balance Technology. Positioning the center of gravity (CG) just below the shaft axis and using a unique S-hosel design allows the Allen putter's face to stay square and stable throughout your entire stroke. Your hands simply hold the putter without any manipulation because the putter naturally resists twisting, thus reducing your need to counteract any putter face rotation. This results in more consistent center contact and ball striking.

You're probably used to putters that work against your stroke, forcing you to compensate by holding the face steady or rotating with it. This can lead to inconsistent shots. The Allan Putter changes the game. Your hands hold the putter without manipulating it, and the putter naturally resists twisting, giving you a consistent center contact putt. Even a tiny misalignment - just one degree - can make all the difference, causing you to miss your putt every time. The Allan Putter's has been designed to help you avoid this issue.

PXG has taken its signature pyramid face pattern to the next level with the third generation. You'll notice more aggressive milling, which improves the ball roll characteristics across the face. The adjustable sole weights let you fine-tune the putter during a fitting, so it's customized to your specs. The "Pick Up Pocket" sole feature is a game-changer – you can scoop up your ball without bending down. Genius, right?

You'll love the Allan Putter once you get the hang of it. Mastering this putter takes a little practice, but trust me, it's worth it. The key is taking your hands out of the putting stroke and letting the putter do its thing. Most golfers are used to being hands-on, rotating the face, or fighting it, but this putter works differently. You've got to adopt a more hands-off approach. Let the putter swing free, and you'll be amazed at how accurately it hits the ball. There are no guarantees in golf, but when you step back and let the Allan Putter work its magic, you significantly increase your chances of sinking more putts. Especially when you line up over the ball because this is where the alignment aid on this putter shines; it's got a line that runs from the club face to the back of the putter, which is fantastic for aiming, especially if you use a line on your ball.

I tested the Allan Putter from different distances on the practice green. The results blew me away. With each putt, the ball tracked towards the hole, spinning end over end in a tight line. This shows the putter's precision, engineering, and balance. The key to a great putter is the ball's behavior when it comes off the face. If the face is open or closed at impact, the ball will spin sideways and miss the target. But with the Allan Putter, the ball rolled true every time, with perfect forward spin and a razor-straight line.

Is the PXG Allan Putter Worth It?

Absolutely, while the PXG Allan Putter is a great product, there are a few pros and cons that you need to be aware of:

Pros:

  • Zero Torque Balance Technology keeps the putter face square and stable throughout the stroke, reducing the need for player manipulation.

  • The Allan Putter is amazingly effective for players of all abilities and putting stroke types. The putter will stay square to your natural path, whether you have a straight back and through, slight arc, or firm arc stroke.

  • Convenient "Pick Up Pocket" sole design features grooves that allow you to quickly pick up your ball without bending down, reducing back strain.

Cons:

  • At $449.99, the PXG Allan Putter has a premium price point that may be prohibitive for some golfers.

  • PXG recommends getting an in-depth fitting to optimize the Allan Putter for your stroke. While they offer this service, buying off the rack requires some extra time and effort.

  • The Allan Putter currently only comes in one head shape option. Golfers who prefer blades, mallets, or other specific head designs cannot get this innovative technology in their favorite style.
