It hasn’t been until recently that Srixon has made a name for itself as a top-level club manufacturer. With that said, they’ve carved out a nice niche in the market among a loyal segment of the golf population that comprises players of all abilities.

The company’s latest innovations are the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers.

Key Features

Rebound Frame Technology returns increased energy into the golf ball at impact for more ball speed and greater distance.

Lightweight carbon crown is 15% lighter than previous models. This lowers CG and increases MOI for higher launch conditions and more forgiveness.

Weight ports in both drivers allow for individual optimization of CG. Adjustable hosels allow players to dial in loft, lie, and face angle.

Design and Technology

When Srixon introduced it’s first series of drivers, popular opinion held that they lacked the technological innovation and design features of the game’s most popular drivers.

The company has certainly come a long way since those early days and that’s evidenced by all the cool stuff to be found in both the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers.

Srixon ZX5 Driver

The feature that stands out most in the ZX5 driver is the incorporation of Rebound Frame Technology. Instead of having weights and the heel and toe of the club for added stability, the ZX5 features a single weight at the back of the club that golfers say makes it one of the most stable heads on the market through impact. Another benefit is higher MOI for increased forgiveness.

A weight port in the sole of the club allows golfers to easily dial in CG and swing weight for optimal launch conditions and performance. Combined with the ability to adjust loft, lie, and face angle in the hosel, this is easy to fit and adjust on the fly.

Touted as the “Tour Driver”. That starts with a head shape that’s flatter and shallower than drivers geared toward higher handicaps. The result is a classic shape that inspires confidence and control.

The ZX7 is also much lower spinning than its counterpart, the ZX5. The result is much lower launch conditions that better players prefer.

This driver isn’t short on adjustability either. It features two weight ports that can be customized to produce just about any ball flight. Same story as the ZX5 when it comes to hosel adjustability as well.

Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 Driver

In the ZX5 and ZX7, Srixon has introduced the best drivers they’ve ever produced.

That’s the consensus the golf world has witnessed from Tour Pros to high handicappers. The technology has been upgraded and the clubs’ aesthetics are eye-catching.

While Srixon might not replace Taylormade or Callaway as industry leaders in the driver space, they’re surely being noticed more and more.

PROS

  • Rebound Frame Technology affords unsurpassed stability at impact.
  • Plenty of adjustability options make both clubs easy to customize.
  • Price point is slightly lower than other drivers on the market.

CONS

  • Lack of reputation may be a deterrent for some golfers.
  • Limited stock shaft options could be a limiting factor.
  • Shipping times have been inconsistent due to global shipping logistics.

Our Experience

I’ve been fortunate to hit both drivers and I have to say, the ZX7 is definitely meant for better players. While it’s not nearly as forgiving, you can just tell that good ball strikers start salivating with the thing in their hands. It’s little wonder it’s the most popular Srixon driver on the PGA Tour.

For recreational players like me, the ZX5 is a different story entirely. It’s high launching and tremendously forgiving. I was more than impressed with this club’s adjustability options and stable feeling through the hitting area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key differences between the Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 drivers?

The Srixon ZX5 driver has a larger, more forgiving head shape with a single sole weight positioned low and deep to increase MOI and forgiveness. It is designed for higher launch and more distance. In contrast, the ZX7 driver has a more compact, pear-shaped head with a flatter crown and higher skirt, producing a lower, more penetrating ball flight. The ZX7 also features an adjustable hosel and swappable sole weights to allow for customization of launch and shot shape.

How do the Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 drivers perform on the course?

The ZX5 is described as the more forgiving and solid of the two drivers, providing excellent control and a sense of "autopilot" off the tee. It launches the ball high and carries far. The ZX7 is less forgiving but offers more adjustability and a lower, more penetrating ball flight that skilled players prefer. Both drivers feature Srixon's new Rebound Frame technology for enhanced energy transfer and ball speed.

What are the key technologies in the Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 drivers?

Both drivers utilize a carbon crown that is 15% larger than previous models, allowing more mass to be positioned low and deep in the head for higher MOI. They also feature Srixon's new Rebound Frame technology, which is designed to optimize clubhead stiffness and energy transfer for maximum ball speed. The ZX7 adds adjustable hosel and swappable sole weights for customizable launch and shot shape.

How do the Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 drivers compare to previous Srixon driver models?

Compared to the previous Z785 and Z585 drivers, the new ZX5 and ZX7 models feature significant improvements in forgiveness, adjustability, and energy transfer. The Rebound Frame technology is a notable upgrade that Srixon says provides a more efficient transfer of energy to the ball. The larger carbon crowns also allow for enhanced MOI and launch characteristics.

What type of golfer is each Srixon ZX driver model best suited for?

The Srixon ZX5 driver is geared more towards golfers seeking high launch, distance, and forgiveness. Its larger, more triangular head shape and rear sole weight promote a straighter, higher ball flight. The ZX7 driver, with its more compact, pear-shaped head and adjustable features, is better suited for skilled players who want more control over their ball flight and shot shape.

Conclusion

For years, Srixon has produced some of the best golf balls to be found anywhere. Only recently have they reputedly stepped into the driver space.

While they might not have been around forever, all factors seem to indicate they’re here to stay. That certainly seems to be the case with both the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers. Plenty of proven technology and aesthetically pleasing design features make these clubs suitable for anyone wanting more consistency, forgiveness, and distance off the tee.
