Are you sick of paying the equivalent of a green fee for premium golf balls? Do think to yourself, there goes another $5 every time you lose a ball? We know that feeling at Golfer’s Authority and it’s a painful one.
You’re probably familiar with it as well. It’s like paying extra for the glass your beer comes in at the end of the round. Ludicrous.
Thankfully, a company in Germany saw the exorbitant price of premium golf balls and decided to do something about it. Vice has cut out the middleman and ships directly to consumers. That allows them to undercut much of the competition and deliver the savings to golf geeks like you and me.
The company’s flagship ball is the Vice Pro Plus. Made for low to mid-handicappers, this ball delivers the best of both worlds – distance and exceptional feel and control.
Let’s dive a little deeper.
Four-piece construction delivers superior distance and ample spin.
Dual casing adds to the distance equation and provides the control players with fast swing speeds are looking for.
Urethane cover is durable, yet affords the soft feel golfers expect on short shots and putts.
The folks at Vice Golf must be some real nerds. The technology they’ve incorporated into the Pro Plus golf ball and cutting-edge.
To start, four-piece construction allows golfers to realize both distance and feel. Each layer is strategically designed to enhance one benefit or the other. The layers work in tandem to deliver where it matters most, out on the course.
The core of the Pro Plus is one of those layers and it’s larger than cores found in other premium balls. HESC stands for High Energy Speed Core. By all accounts, the fancy acronym more than lives up to expectations.
A dual mantle made from elastic increases ball speed off the face of long clubs while also increasing carry distance. The ideal combination for driver distance is high launch and low spin. Vice got it right.
The cover of the Vice Pro is worth noting too. It’s made of a thin layer of urethane which allows you to zip those wedges with lots of spin to stop short shots close to the hole. At the same time, the 336-dimple pattern is aerodynamically efficient and adequately durable.

PROS
CONS
Vice has been around for a few years now. But when I first heard about this ball that performed just as well as any other premium ball and didn’t cost nearly as much, I was skeptical to say the least.
Skepticism quickly turned to belief when I put the Pro Plus in play for the first time. From tee to green this ball performed every bit as well as the premium balls I normally play with.
While Pro Plus was impressive from tee to green, it’s playability on and around the green was what really shined for me. The soft feel and responsiveness off the putter face was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. On short chips and pitches, I was able to make the ball do what I wanted with ease.
The only drawback in my eyes was that the Pro Plus wasn’t quite as durable as some of the other premium balls on the market. While you won’t have any trouble getting through 18 holes with a single ball, the Pro Plus did show some wear and tear by the end. Of course, it probably didn’t help that I bounced it off the cart path and bladed a couple wedges.
